About us

St Martin’s is a warm and welcoming Christian community that is seeking to live out God’s calling to love the Lord our God with all of ourselves, and to love our neighbours here in St Martin’s parish and beyond.  People of all ages and stages are welcome and there is something for everyone, from seniors to babies and all ages in-between.  We believe that each and every person has something to contribute to our church family, and it is our desire that everyone feels welcomed, accepted and finds a place of belonging and fulfilment.

Our Vision

To see God’s love transform our lives, our community and our world as  we seek to follow Jesus

How we go about it?

Jesus calls us to live like the Kingdom is near – A way to live that

  • Puts God first
  • Calls us to love neighbours as ourselves
  • Inspires us to care for our community, our Island and the wider world

But what does that actually mean for us? How do we actually go about it?

Our aim as a church is to continually ask this very question.  In fact we sum it up like this – “if ‘this’ was in the kingdom of Heaven, what would it look like?”

We believe that as we follow Jesus and seek to live like the kingdom is near, we will see God’s love transform every area of our lives, our community and our World.

This belief is underpinned by the values that our church holds – We call them “Kingdom Values”

Loving God

God centered

Worshipping the Father, Son and Spirit in lives spent in relationship with Him. (Psalm 29:2)

Spirit led and biblically anchored

Walking by the Spirit in accordance with His word. (1 John 3:24)

Faith filled

Living lives of expectant faith in obedience to God’s direction. (2 Corinthians 5:7)

Underpinned by prayer

Recognising our dependence upon God as a priority for our lives (Mark 1:35-37)

Loving our neighbours as ourselves

Committed to community

Believing in the church as an authentic, inclusive and healing family. (Hebrews 10:24-25)

Transformational

Encouraging the development and growth of all people to become more like Jesus. (2 Corinthians 3:18)

Gospel focused

Living lives of everyday mission, seeking to share and be the gospel. (Matthew 28:19)

Gifted to serve

Empowering every one in their God given gifts for the benefit of the whole body. (1 Peter 4:10)

Care for our community, our Island and the wider world

Culturally aware

Seeking to communicate eternal truth in ways all people understand. (1 Corinthians 9:19-23)

Being incarnational

Serving the whole community, recognising everyone’s worth as an image bearer of God and their need to be in relationship with Him. (Isaiah 58:6-11)

Committed to social and environmental concerns

Heeding God’s call to act with justice and mercy (Amos 5:23-24) and to care for the Earth (Genesis 1:28)

Looking wider

Actively supporting charities that care for the marginalised and the vulnerable. (Matthew 25:35)

These values sum up what we desire to be, for we believe that the more our lives are transformed by God’s love, the more like Him we will become.
